A good starting point for learning about the Black Mafia Family is 50 Cent’s “BMF” series premiering on Starz in 2021. Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “South-west T” Flenory were brothers who ran a legendary criminal family in South Detroit. The two criminals ran a nationwide cocaine trafficking ring at the turn of the millennium. However, the brothers were apprehended in 2005 and eventually entered guilty pleas in 2007. Each brother received a 30-year jail term.
There have been several films and television shows based on the BMF narrative. According to reports, Starz and 50 Cent are also developing a docuseries to air alongside their scripted series.
Starz CEO and President Jeffrey Hirsch said, “The success of ‘BMF’ demonstrates a continued rise in fan demand and interest in the story of the Flenory Brothers.”
The Starz series has been renewed for a second season after a successful launch; the premiere date is yet TBD.

As high school sophomores, the brothers entered the drug trade. Since the 1980s, when they first started trafficking drugs, the two brothers had amassed quite a drug empire.
According to the US Department of Justice, “At its peak during 2003-2004, the BMF was moving hundreds of kilograms of cocaine into Atlanta, Detroit, and other distribution hubs every month.”
Terry and his elder brother had a falling out in 2001, so Terry moved to Los Angeles and established his drug organization. However, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) tracked down both brothers and arrested them in 2005.
Because of his COVID, he was given house arrest.
On May 5th, 2020, Terry Flenory got freed from jail. Due to his failing health and the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ initiative to release select offenders to contain the COVID-19 epidemic, he was given compassionate parole.
Terry’s remaining time in prison will be served on house arrest. Demetrius, his brother, also applied for amnesty but was turned down because the judge believed he hadn’t changed and was still advertising himself as a drug kingpin. Although Demetrius’ original release date was set for 2032, he will likely be released in 2028.
He’s connected to a lot of big names in the rap game.
The brothers launched a hip-hop record label called BMF Entertainment in addition to their narcotics business. Despite its origins in money laundering for the cocaine trade, BMF operated as a lawful company for many years.
Famous rappers Jay-Z, Diddy, T.I., Young Jeezy, Trina, Fabolous, and Shawty Lo were all friends of the Flenory brothers. Bleu DaVinci, who was also charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, was one of the musicians released by the record label.
